Align level of training with the skill level of those who will be enrolling in TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programs and have realistic expectations for the level of improvement that is possible. The Ministry of Education of Guatemala wanted their TVET programs to be level 3, intending to equip students with a higher skill level. However, the professional experience of the students who enrolled in the course was better suited for a level 2 TVET course. This misalignment led to the development of curriculum that was overly ambitious and difficult to implement. In the future, MCC’s TVET programming should balance having ambitious program objectives with the level of improvement that is realistic within a specific country context.
