Statement by MCC CEO Dana J. Hyde on House Approval of Regionally Focused Investments

For Immediate Release

September 9, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 9, 2016 – The U.S. House of Representatives late Wednesday passed the AGOA Enhancement Act of 2015 (H.R. 2845), which would, in part, enable the U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to pursue investments that reduce poverty by reaching beyond country borders and enhancing regional integration. In June, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations also approved legislation granting MCC the same authority (S. 1605).

Following passage by the House, MCC CEO Dana J. Hyde today released the following statement:

I am delighted that the full House of Representatives has voted to give MCC the authority to pursue regional compact agreements that link markets and customers across borders. This legislation will strengthen MCC’s work to accelerate economic growth and lift people out of poverty.

“Thanks to the leadership of Chairman Ed Royce and Congresswoman Karen Bass, as well as Congressmen Eliot Engel and Chris Smith, the House has taken an important step forward to maximize the effectiveness of foreign assistance.”
