Statement from MCC CEO Daniel Yohannes on the Death of Ghanaian President John Evans Atta Mills

On behalf of MCC, my deepest condolences go out to the family of President Mills and the people of Ghana on the passing of the President.  Ghana was selected as one of the first countries to receive MCC assistance and has been a valued partner since our inception.  It is the first country I visited after becoming CEO at MCC -- and I was honored to return again in February 2012 to celebrate the completion of the compact with President Mills and the people of Ghana.   President Mills played a key role in helping to bring Ghana’s first MCC compact, which is expected to benefit more than 1.2 million Ghanaians, to a successful closure.  We will miss his insight, dedication to good governance, and his commitment to reducing poverty and improving his nation’s economy.  We join the people of Ghana in mourning his loss.
