Statement

Statement from MCC CEO Dana J. Hyde on the Awarding of the 2014 Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership

For Immediate Release

March 2, 2015

I applaud President Hifikepunye Pohamba on this recognition of his work and leadership. President Pohamba’s strong leadership contributed to the success of the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s investment in Namibia.  That investment is expected to benefit more than 1 million Namibians—almost half the population of that country.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation will continue to stand with countries like Namibia, and with partners like the Mo Ibrahim Foundation who value good governance, the rule of law and the will of the people as bedrock principles for sustainable growth and development. President Pohamba’s leadership puts these principles into action and recognizes how absolutely essential they are to economic prosperity and progress in Africa and beyond.

Background: The Namibia-MCC partnership invested $304.5 million in eco-tourism, agriculture and education to drive economic growth, create jobs, mobilize investment and fight poverty.
